Apply for the fifth COVID-19 Wage Subsidy August 2021 payment

Apply between 15 and 28 October 2021 for the COVID-19 Wage Subsidy August 2021 #5 using our online application form.

Applications for COVID-19 Wage Subsidy August 2021 #4 closed at 11.59pm on Thursday 14 October.

When to apply:

If you applied for Wage Subsidy #4, you must wait two weeks before you can apply for the new Wage Subsidy #5, even if you haven’t been paid. If you apply before this your application will be declined. If you applied and were eligible for the Wage Subsidy #4, we’ll email you to tell you when you can apply for the new Wage Subsidy #5.

Inland Revenue is updating their systems between 21 and 28 October. This may delay some COVID-19 Wage Subsidy August 2021 applications, because we need to verify your information with Inland Revenue. You can still apply during this time. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

You can apply for Wage Subsidy August 2021 #5 even if you didn’t apply for any of the earlier wage subsidies.

Fill out the online form

The online form you fill out depends on whether you have people working for you or not. If you are applying for more than one person (including yourself) use the employer form

You must be in New Zealand, or Australia, when you make the application.

Not sure which form to use

If you:

Have 80 or more employees – use the large employer application

Are a sole trader receiving regular salary/wages from your business with PAYE deducted – use the employer application

Are a sole trader receiving only profits from the business at the year-end (no regular salary/wages) – use the self-employed application

Are a shareholder of a company receiving regular salary/wages with PAYE deducted – include your name as an employee in the company’s employer application

Are a shareholder of a company getting only an annual shareholder salary (no regular salary/wages) – use the self-employed application, enter your personal name and IRD number as the applicant and provide the details for the business you receive an income from

Are a director of a company only (not a shareholder) you can get the subsidy if you’re getting regular salary/wages with PAYE deducted from the company – include your name as an employee in the company’s employer application

Are a partner in a partnership that takes regular salary/wages with PAYE deducted – include your name as an employee in the partnership’s employer application

Are a partner in a partnership that only gets a share of partnership income at the end of the year when accounts are prepared – use the self-employed application, enter your personal name and IRD number as the applicant and provide the details for the business you receive an income from

Are a trustee of a trust, you’ll only be able to get the wage subsidy if you’re getting regular salary/wages with PAYE deducted from the trust – include your name as an employee in the trust’s employer application

Are a charity, club or society, you will be able to get the wage subsidy for people paid regular salary/wages with PAYE deducted – use the employer application.
